Letting the cat out of the bag

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag: I’m going back to New Zealand! 🙂 I couldn’t be happier knowing I’m going to travel through this amazing country again! It will be my third time in this beautiful land of the long white cloud. I think I had a pretty good deal withContinueContinue reading “Letting the cat out of the bag”

Taiaroa Head

Dunedin is a lovely city and a great place from which you can explore the area around it. The Otago Peninsula is beautiful! I did an organised tour where, among other things, we visited Taiaroa Head and the albatross colony. This was an optional extra, and I was very excited, but sadly it was aContinueContinue reading “Taiaroa Head”

Swag life

During my first time in Australia, I really wanted to travel the West Coast. It’s far less touristy than the East Coast, I learnt. But that’s what I was after: avoiding masses and exploring something different. I’d been halfway up the coast and spent time in Kalbarri, Coral Bay and Exmouth, before heading back down toContinueContinue reading “Swag life”

Mission ‘Pelennor Fields’…failed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tgi-j56ueU In keeping up with the interest in Lord of the Rings filming locations, I headed to Twizel. My idea was to do a tour to the location used for the Pelennor Fields. It was a mistake coming to Twizel, because it was blah, very very blah. Backpacking wise, it was no fun either. Being oneContinueContinue reading “Mission ‘Pelennor Fields’…failed”

Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer. Rimmo nîn Bruinen dan in Ulaer!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9K7fueW4Bk “Waters of the Misty Mountains listen to the great word. Flow waters of Loudwater against the Ringwraiths!” The Lord of the Rings is a series of movies I’ve utterly enjoyed. Same goes for The Hobbit movies, though I have yet to see the latest film. The whole country of New Zealand is like a film decor.ContinueContinue reading “Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer. Rimmo nîn Bruinen dan in Ulaer!”

Kenneth, the koala

Ha, just kidding! This koala doesn’t have a name, but it could very well have been Kenneth. 😉 When you tour the Great Ocean Road, chances are you’re going to stop at Kenneth River. It’s a road with heaps of trees on both sides and in those trees you can see many koalas in theirContinueContinue reading “Kenneth, the koala”

Surprise gem of a place

This wasn’t even a place on my list of areas to visit when I was in New Zealand. My travel partner and I had spent some time in Nelson and were heading out of town and on to other places to explore. The hostel owner recommended Nelson Lakes N.P. to us. She said how beautifulContinueContinue reading “Surprise gem of a place”

The road less travelled

Trekking from hut to hut through amazing nature, enjoying the most amazing scenery along the Routeburn Track was quite invigorating. Forget the aching, forget the sweating, this is when I felt alive…and I’d do it all over again.
