Vík í Mýrdal, Skaftareldahraun and Kirkjubæjarklaustur

We briefly stopped in Vík í Mýrdal for a shopping break (big Icewear store, I love outdoor clothes!) and a quick visit to the gorgeous black sand beach. The weather was stunning! I’m sure it was a bit windy and a bit chilly, but with clear skies like these, how can you go wrong? WeContinue reading “Vík í Mýrdal, Skaftareldahraun and Kirkjubæjarklaustur”

Puffins and a gorgeous black sand beach

Reynisfjara, for me one of the highlights of my travels through Iceland. It was windy and -again- there were a lot of people of which quite many were climbing the basalt columns, which made it basically impossible to get a clean shot. But it was so beautiful and I’d happily return to this stunning placeContinue reading “Puffins and a gorgeous black sand beach”

Sólheimajökull

Day 3 of our Icelandic adventure was far from over and we made our way further south on the ring road. We stopped to have a walk up to Sólheimajökull, a glacier in the south of Iceland. There was quite a bit of debris on the ice, which I thought made it look rather mysterious.Continue reading “Sólheimajökull”

Falling awake

While I know the lockdown is necessary to try and control the situation, it’s also tough to stick out. I’m doing my part, but realised it was time to escape the city for a bit. I’m spending some time with my mom and cats. Last Friday, we went to the beach. I hadn’t been toContinue reading “Falling awake”

A day of waterfalls

Day 3 of our Icelandic adventure started with a visit to Seljalandsfoss. What’s cool about this waterfall is that you can walk behind it! I’ve always wanted to do that! 🙂 After this waterfall, we went to a nearby waterfall: Gljúfrabúi, which means ‘canyon dweller’. It was a challenge getting through the canyon over slipperyContinue reading “A day of waterfalls”

The Golden Circle

August 22 2019 I hopped on a plane to Reykjavík, Iceland. Finally, a dream was coming true! I’ve wanted to visit Iceland ever since I started riding Icelandic horses way back when. A country that speaks to the imagination; rugged, harsh and barren, yet diverse and insanely beautiful! I spent the first night in FosshótelContinue reading “The Golden Circle”

Bomarsund & Notvikstornet

My friend and I continued our travels around the Åland Islands. Next up…a history lesson! Although not much is left of Bomarsund and Notvikstornet, it was still interesting to visit a historical site and see the strategic location of the tower. Especially now that the Åland Islands are demilitarised. I remember it being quite hotContinue reading “Bomarsund & Notvikstornet”

Jan Karlsgården

On day three, Sanna and I went to Jan Karlsgården, an open-air museum and the main museum on Åland. A place packed with traditions showing what farms would have looked like in the 1800s. I love learning about times past, so this was perfect! So much to see, so much history to absorb. There wereContinue reading “Jan Karlsgården”
