We briefly stopped in Vík í Mýrdal for a shopping break (big Icewear store, I love outdoor clothes!) and a quick visit to the gorgeous black sand beach. The weather was stunning! I’m sure it was a bit windy and a bit chilly, but with clear skies like these, how can you go wrong?

We then went on to Skaftareldahraun, a big lava field. The vegetation growing on the lava is very delicate, so you couldn’t walk on it. There is a path you walk on that takes you to several look outs. Views for days!

Day 3 was coming to an end. We had settled in at the lovely and comfortable hotel in Kirkjubæjarklaustur. It was still very nice outside and we decided to go for an evening walk. I can’t remember if it was before or after dinner, I think before. We climbed up and were able to enjoy more amazing views! With a glacier in the background (I think it was the Vatnajökull), silhouettes of horses on the other side, this was just a perfect day to end an awesome and action-packed day!

Beautiful!
