The seventh week of working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic has ended. We’re still in lockdown. The world has been turned upside down. Daily life has lost its effortlessness. I know there are people struggling right now. Understandable, as we’re in this situation for who knows how long. The lack of perspective isContinue reading “One day at a time: similarities between travelling and the current lockdown situation”

Snow scooter tour
The second full day in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, we went on a snow scooter tour! Initially, I had wanted to drive a snow scooter myself and I was booked in for the full day. However, my left hand was hurting a lot. Probably due to the cold and trying to hold onto the dogsled the dayContinue reading “Snow scooter tour”
Camp Barentz
After returning from our husky tour, we had some free time. A bunch of us went out for lunch. We ended up at a place called Kroa, where I enjoyed a very yummy burger. After lunch, I went back to the hotel and managed to have a quick rest before our lecture started. A localContinue reading “Camp Barentz”
Husky tour
We learned on the bus tour after we first arrived on Spitsbergen, that you can’t keep your huskies in your home. Arctic adventures commence!
One month ago, I went on an amazing holiday! I travelled north, farther north than I’d ever been before. Early last summer, I had booked a Northern Lights tour to Sommarøy -near Tromsø, Norway- and Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen (or: Svalbard). I had booked this trip even before I went to Iceland at the end of lastContinue reading “Arctic adventures commence!”
A day in Stockholm
It was time to -sort of- say goodbye to my friend and her husband. They needed to go back to work and I was going to visit another friend. But first, I had a day and a night in Stockholm. I arrived early in the morning. Luckily, I could already check into my hotel room,Continue reading “A day in Stockholm”
Grönsöö Slott
The last activity my friend, her husband and I did before I had to leave again was a visit to beautiful Grönsöö Slott, a Swedish cultural heritage site in the Enköping area. The manor was built in 1611! We visited the gardens, which are kept beautifully. Also, the location by the water is simply stunning.Continue reading “Grönsöö Slott”
Stora Rickebyhällen
On our way back from Birka, we stopped by an archaeological site called Stora Rickebyhällen. In the stone, various figures and shapes were carved. Amazing to see how they’re still visible after so many years. Granted, all the engravings are coloured in in recent times, but that doesn’t diminish its value one bit. I findContinue reading “Stora Rickebyhällen”
