Nau Mai Haere Mai ki Te Wharawhara

One of the things I really wanted to while staying on Stewart Island was visit a neighouring island called Ulva Island, a pest-free sanctuary where bird life is abundant due to the lack of rodents and other troublemakers. The day that I had planned to go washed away, literally, as it rained the whole time. Luckily,ContinueContinue reading “Nau Mai Haere Mai ki Te Wharawhara”

Stewart Island

My visit to Stewart Island was a lot different than I thought it would be. I had planned to do the Rakiura Track, but my poor knees discouraged me enough for me to cancel. I still wanted to go to the island and I decided to do shorter hikes instead. Because I had to rearrange myContinueContinue reading “Stewart Island”

Inspiration

It’s been a while since I felt so inspired that all I wanted to do was be. The Mt. Cook area did that for me. I’ve seen Mt. Cook (Aoraki) before and even briefly visited the town for all of 45 minutes, but I always felt that I had to come back and stay longer.ContinueContinue reading “Inspiration”

My idea was to do a tour to the location used for the Pelennor Fields. It was a mistake coming to Twizel, because it was blah, very very blah. Backpacking wise, it was no fun either. Being oneContinueContinue reading “Mission ‘Pelennor Fields’…failed”

The road less travelled

Trekking from hut to hut through amazing nature, enjoying the most amazing scenery along the Routeburn Track was quite invigorating. Forget the aching, forget the sweating, this is when I felt alive…and I’d do it all over again.

You live, you learn

The Fjällräven Classic, it’s been well over a year ago that I participated in this daunting trek. No, I didn’t finish the trekking, but I’ve finally made my peace with it. Had I known then what I know now, I would have done a lot of things differently. I suppose that is what life is all about:ContinueContinue reading “You live, you learn”

Peeking through

Arthur’s Pass is beautiful. Lush in greens, trees, shrubs…and amazing views! On my way to the Devil’s Punchbowl Falls I saw this view, perfectly framed with trees on all sides. I had to stop for a minute to enjoy it. Okay, maybe more than a minute! 🙂
