Last Summer a friend of mine and I hiked through the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. The dune area is a protected nature reserve and also helps supply drinking water for the city of Amsterdam. Last time we attempted to hike there, there was a huge storm and it wouldn’t have been safe to go and hike (apparentlyContinueContinue reading “Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen”

Funky (smelling) town
After our Hobbiton adventure, mom and I made our way to Rotorua. Yes, that stinky town 😛 Apart from the sulphur smells, which are not always that bad unless the wind wafts a certain way, there is actually plenty to do. Personally, I’d recommend investing some time in learning more about Maori culture. You canContinueContinue reading “Funky (smelling) town”
May the forest be with you
These photos are from when I hiked the Bosbesjestocht (blueberries hike) for the third time last year. It’s a beautiful route starting in Groesbeek, near Nijmegen. The route leads across the border into Germany and passes through the beautiful Reichswald. It’s a lovely hike through forest and along small back roads.
Hobbiton: an unexpected journey
On our way from the Coromandel to our next destination of Rotorua, I knew that we would sort of pass the Matamata area. I’d thought about visiting Hobbiton before, but never actually made my way down there. As we were driving south, I saw a road sign directed towards Hobbiton. I had no idea thatContinueContinue reading “Hobbiton: an unexpected journey”
Roots and belonging
This week’s photography challenge inspires me greatly. I live in the Netherlands and I’ve always felt the confines of the small country I call my home. With 17 million people on a small stretch of land that you can drive through from one end to the other in about three hours, I sometimes feel claustrophobic.ContinueContinue reading “Roots and belonging”
Pohutukawa
Pohutukawa are so beautiful! When we travelled around New Zealand, we saw many of these trees adorned with beautiful crimson flowers. I took these two photos when we were on a road trip from Hahei via Waiau Kauri Grove to Coromandel Town and then to Whitianga.
Vista
Beautiful vista in the Coromandel! I love how you see layer after layer in this shot. And on the right there is a tiny patch of deforested land (for commerce perhaps?). I love how the green vegetation in front of the photo frames the shot and provides a contrast with the more blueish colours ofContinueContinue reading “Vista”
Hey you, with the wind swept hair!
Here’s my shot for Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge ‘Outdoor ways to move up and down’. Sky diving was one of my ‘Bucket List Items’ and I was so excited when I finally got to do it! This was 2003 when I had my working holiday (mostly holiday, lol) in Australia and I did a tandemContinueContinue reading “Hey you, with the wind swept hair!”
