Island ingredients: wind, salty air, clouds and sun

Last weekend I spent a few days on the beautiful island of Vlieland. I’d never been to one of the Dutch islands before, so I was excited to go! I went over because a friend and her husband were going to run half a marathon (crazy sporty people! 🙂 ) and I would cheer them on!ContinueContinue reading “Island ingredients: wind, salty air, clouds and sun”

One glacier please, sunny not stirred

This is Franz Josef glacier on the South Island of New Zealand. This was the first time that I ever saw a glacier and I thought it was very impressive! The weather was amazing that day, so the colours and shadows of the ice made this a really spectacular view for me. I hiked onContinueContinue reading “One glacier please, sunny not stirred”

Lake McKenzie

January 2012, day two of the Routeburn Track. I’d been tramping for a few hours, passed the highest point of the trek and seen the most amazing views that made me go ‘wow, I am here to see it!’ It was time to head down to Lake McKenzie Hut, where I would stay the secondContinueContinue reading “Lake McKenzie”

North Sea

The beach is a lovely place to let the wind clear your head. I love walking along the beach when it’s sunny and windy. I love the sound of waves and how the waves crash onto the beach. I don’t get out to the beach nearly enough. Maybe I should change that! There’s an ideaContinueContinue reading “North Sea”

Punakaiki

Punakaiki, a small place on the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Home to the pancake rocks and some very rugged and stunning coast line. Every time I look at this photo I discover something new; a couple of rocks, a new layer of depth, a new colour, a boat on the horizon. Punakaiki’s part ofContinueContinue reading “Punakaiki”

Mrs. Weka

One lovely evening in paradise, aka during my stay at Hopewell, I saw this cute little weka. Weka, also known as Maori hen or woodhen, is a flightless bird species of the rail family (rallidae). I guess it got curious there for a minute! 🙂 Mrs. Weka from TravelSan on Vimeo.

Town with a view

Admittedly, Queenstown is a party town. I don’t like partying, so that part of town doesn’t appeal to me. There is, on the other hand, a lot to do in and around Queenstown. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, Queenstown is the place to be. I myself have done my bungy jump here inContinueContinue reading “Town with a view”

Mr. Penguin

A new category on my blog: videos! I remembered I took various videos during my last travel Down Under and I thought it would be fun to share some of them here. Hope you’ll enjoy the first ‘Mr. Penguin’. 🙂 In Curio Bay, New Zealand, yellow-eyed penguins come to shore every evening around 18.00-18.30 pm.ContinueContinue reading “Mr. Penguin”
