Dreaming of a white Christmas

Here is a photo I took a few years ago, when we had a cold Winter with lots and lots of snow (by Dutch standards). While I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to freezing temperatures (in the Netherlands it always gets water cold), I do love a sunny, cold and crisp Winter’sContinueContinue reading “Dreaming of a white Christmas”

Muted

Lake Tekapo is known for its bright turquoise waters. Seeing it in a muted state, pretty much like a ‘regular lake’ was something different. I like seeing a different face of this place. The clouds, the muted colours make it nice and moody. I love how in the background you can see a bit ofContinueContinue reading “Muted”

Shades of grey

This milky grey lake is glacially fed by the Hooker glacier, which you can see in the background of this photo. I love how muted and almost monochrome the colours are. No bright blue lake edged by multicoloured flowers. Just grey and earthy tones, and a stunning view to match. It’s the reward you get afterContinueContinue reading “Shades of grey”

The many hues of Lake Pukaki

Lake Pukaki is a lake with ever changing colours. I’ve seen it in a really bright milky blue, an almost neon turquoise, and now in a deep medium blue with dark spots where clouds cast their shadows. This is one of those lakes that will look different every time you see it. I love it!

Trail marker

While it can be fun to create, personally I wouldn’t do that. You never know if you send someone astray by placing a randomContinueContinue reading “Trail marker”

The sun goes down

My roommate and I looked out the window of our dorm room and saw Mount Cook in the most amazing pink light. The sun was setting over the highest mountain in New Zealand and we headed out as fast as we could to catch the last rays of sunlight. The light was changing fast and itContinueContinue reading “The sun goes down”

Resident kaka

During my week on Stewart Island I stayed at the wonderful BBH hostel Bunkers Backpackers. It was a really cosy place with friendly people and an awesome atmosphere. It’s quickly become one of my favourite hostels in New Zealand and I highly recommend it! Every once in a while one or two kaka birds would pay theContinueContinue reading “Resident kaka”

Magnolia

As I walked to Stanley Park, I was drawn to this beautiful magnolia tree I saw along the way. I loved how the sunlight hit the petals, bringing out that vibrant pink. I love light, and the contrast and effect it creates. The flowers smelled lovely too, so that wasn’t much of a hardship either.
