Unfurling fern frond

“In pounamu carving the koru is said to represent new beginnings, growth and regeneration. We know it symbolises the fern frond seen in New Zealand’s native bush because of a Maori proverb that speaks of rebirth and growth: Ka hinga atu he tete-kura – ka hara-mai he tete-kura (As one fern frond dies – one is born toContinueContinue reading “Unfurling fern frond”

It’s always going to be like this, isn’t it?

As I write this post, it’s a dull and grey day in December, and we’ve had our first bit of snow. Life happens completely indoors. Ideally, I’d hibernate through to March, haha. I can’t be bothered doing anything other than sit on the couch snuggled up under a blanket while watching Netflix and enjoying a cupContinueContinue reading “It’s always going to be like this, isn’t it?”

Coromandel road trippin’

On one of the days during our stay in Hahei, my mom and I decided to do a little road trip around part of the Coromandel. We went to the Kauri forest and a few towns. One day is obviously not nearly enough for sightseeing in this absolutely gorgeous part of New Zealand. The CoromandelContinueContinue reading “Coromandel road trippin’”

Imperfect mirror

On my first travels through New Zealand, I went to the Milford Sound (I’d actually love to go back, it’s been so long!). On our way over, we (the tour group) stopped at the Mirror Lakes for a photo moment. Without wind, these lakes probably do look like a mirror. We had more changeable weatherContinueContinue reading “Imperfect mirror”

The answer is blowin’ in the wind

When I biked home from the train station yesterday, there was quite a bit of wind. Autumn has truly arrived now. Temperatures are dropping, days are rapidly getting shorter and paddling against the wind has become a little more challenging than on a cruisy summer’s day. I always struggle with my energy levels during theseContinueContinue reading “The answer is blowin’ in the wind”

The value of doing nothing

“Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing” – Winnie the Pooh – I’m reflecting on a busy week at work. I love my job and I secretly love being busy at times too. I’ve been accomplishing things, been productive and gotten in a flow. And it feels rewarding. People are always on the go, always availableContinueContinue reading “The value of doing nothing”

Shimmer

This is one of my favourite photos of my latest travel to New Zealand, taken on the Interislander Ferry to the South Island. I love the predominantly blue colour palet and the almost silver shimmers from the sun on the water. As if I needed any more convincing that the Marlborough Sounds are stunning!
