It’s the Yellow-Eyed Penguins that enter here! Waiting in a camouflaged wildlife observation hut, we peeled our eyes to catch the first glimpse of Yellow-Eyed Penguins coming to shore to rest up for the night. Having to wait in a stunning environment like this isn’t such a hard thing to do! I especially love theContinueContinue reading “Ye who enter here”

Ancient landscape
The Frans Jozef glacier has retreated much over the years, leaving a scarred, ancient landscape bare. I can’t help but wonder what it would have looked like ages ago, when the area was filled with ice and the forces of nature cut their way through, creating a glacial valley in the process. This landscape tells a storyContinueContinue reading “Ancient landscape”
Inspiration
It’s been a while since I felt so inspired that all I wanted to do was be. The Mt. Cook area did that for me. I’ve seen Mt. Cook (Aoraki) before and even briefly visited the town for all of 45 minutes, but I always felt that I had to come back and stay longer.ContinueContinue reading “Inspiration”
Re:start Christchurch
Earthquakes left a devastating mark on Christchurch. I’ve seen the documentary ‘When a city falls’ and it sent chills down my spine. Not only because so many lives got lost and there was so much destruction, but also because people show resilience and are working hard to bounce back. I remember the first time I wasContinueContinue reading “Re:start Christchurch”
Milford Sound
The Milford Sound, a beautiful fjord-type natural spectacle that many travellers visit during their times in New Zealand. Same goes for me, although it’s been a while (ten years!) since I was there. It had rained all morning and it was still a bit gray. Once we got on the water (off-peak hours, marvellousContinueContinue reading “Milford Sound”
Ruggedness
If there is one thing the South Island of New Zealand is good at, it’s ruggedness. I took this photo when I did a LOTR-tour through the Queenstown/Arrowtown area on my first time over. We were touring around with a Landrover so we could get to all those amazing spots the general public can’t getContinueContinue reading “Ruggedness”
Wanaka
On my next travel to New Zealand (because there will definitely be a next time!), I want to see more of Wanaka. I’ve fallen in love with that general area of beautiful mountains and lakes. It’s so stunning, so inspirational. I took this particular photo on my first time over. We were camping at the DOC-campsiteContinueContinue reading “Wanaka”
Local residents
During my first time in New Zealand, I did an ecotour to the Otago Peninsula, close to Dunedin, to see Yellow-Eyed Penguins. The scenery was absolutely stunning, and the late afternoon light so inspirational! On our way to the beach where the penguins come to shore, we saw these local residents, enjoying the space and a nibble.
