Geta

On my second day on Åland, my friend and I went north, to Geta. There we hiked through the beautiful area. Very versatile, rocky at places, smooth hiking in others, big boulders, and with gorgeous views. It was a very warm day. Armed with water, sunscreen and sunglasses, we made it back just fine. ThisContinue reading “Geta”

Lemböte Lägergård

During our time at the Open Water Brewery market, there was some time for me to explore. After all, I was merely the tag along (lol) and my friend Sanna the business owner. She suggested me to walk to Lemböte Lägergård, which had lovely scenery and access to the nearby lake. And so I did!Continue reading “Lemböte Lägergård”

Sail into the sunset

Getting to the Åland Islands is super easy, even if you don’t have your own car. I used the Viking Line from Stockholm to Mariehamm. First I had to take a bus from Stockholm to Kapelskär (easy to book through Viking Line as well!). The bus left from the bus terminal near the central stationContinue reading “Sail into the sunset”

Arctic journey’s end

Our time on Spitsbergen was coming to an end. We packed our bags and were dropped off at the airport. It didn’t take long at all to get through security. The airport is tiny! But I love it, it’s got a charm about it. Then it was time to wait for our flight. Our planeContinue reading “Arctic journey’s end”

Longyearbyen

The arctic adventure continues! On our second to last day in Longyearbyen we were supposed to go on a snowcat adventure to an ice cave somewhere in the area. Unfortunately, the excursion was cancelled. As it turns out, there was not enough snow for the snowcat to ride on and get to the ice cave.Continue reading “Longyearbyen”

Snow scooter tour

The second full day in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, we went on a snow scooter tour! Initially, I had wanted to drive a snow scooter myself and I was booked in for the full day. However, my left hand was hurting a lot. Probably due to the cold and trying to hold onto the dogsled the dayContinue reading “Snow scooter tour”

Camp Barentz

After returning from our husky tour, we had some free time. A bunch of us went out for lunch. We ended up at a place called Kroa, where I enjoyed a very yummy burger. After lunch, I went back to the hotel and managed to have a quick rest before our lecture started. A localContinue reading “Camp Barentz”

Husky tour

We learned on the bus tour after we first arrived on Spitsbergen, that you can’t keep your huskies in your home. They make too much noise for residential areas, especially if you have a bunch of them. So there are these places out of town where dog owners can house their huskies. If you wantContinue reading “Husky tour”
