One thing I absolutely love about travelling is seeing things I’ve never seen before. It ignites curiosity and a sense of exploration in me. In New Zealand there are so many animals, plants and trees that I am unfamiliar with and I love it! This tree is a cabbage tree or cabbage palm (cordyline australis), endemicContinueContinue reading “Cordyline australis”

Shine a little light
I had spent an afternoon sailing and we had just come back to shore. It was later in the afternoon and the sun was peeking through the branches, giving this amazing lighting. I fell in love with the way the light hit the trees and I just kept clicking my camera. As if Hopewell needed to putContinueContinue reading “Shine a little light”
Picton
It’s quite weird that in all three of my visits to New Zealand, I passed through Picton, but never actually stayed there. It’s also quite weird that every time I’m transiting in Picton, I wish I had made the time to stay, because I really like the vibe. The view from the waterfront isn’t exactlyContinueContinue reading “Picton”
Coming up around the bend
The Hooker Valley hike took me through an amazing landscape. Past mountains and glacial lakes, over glacial fed rivers by way of sturdy wire bridges. The hike promised views on Mount Cook, but during the hike, I couldn’t always see that much. Then as I came around the bend, there she was! Beautiful!
Debris
The Mount Cook area is very rugged and there is bound to be some kind of debris flow. As I started my hike through the Hooker Valley, I could hear a lot of debris rolling down higher up one of the mountains. On this photo you can see how the debris has cut into theContinueContinue reading “Debris”
Putakitaki
This little fellow was scurrying through the vegetation quite close to the hostel I was staying at in Mount Cook Village. I zoomed in and slowly approached this little guy to take some photos without scaring him off. He is a New Zealand Paradise duck or ‘pūtakitaki’ in the Maori language. He’s so different from theContinueContinue reading “Putakitaki”
Just taking in the views
When I take photos, it’s not just about getting ‘money shots’ of the ‘great attractions’ in a place. It helps to look back every once in a while or take a photo of things I see along the way. This is one of those photos. It’s not Mount Cook, but I still find it an amazingContinueContinue reading “Just taking in the views”
Exploring the Hooker Valley
This time in New Zealand, I made sure I had a few days in Mount Cook Village to explore this beautiful alpine area. I decided to do a hike (four hours return) through the Hooker Valley to the Hooker Glacier Lake with views on Mount Cook. The day started out foggy, but it quickly clearedContinueContinue reading “Exploring the Hooker Valley”
