We were lucky to have such a beautiful and clear day to see Mt. Ngauruhoe in Tongariro National Park in all its glory. Some people might recognise this volcano as Mt. Doom from the Lord of the Rings movies.

Lake Tarawera

Beautiful Lake Tarawera! I’ve been fascinated by the Mount Tarawera eruption and the destruction of the Pink and White Terraces since the first time I travelled through New Zealand in 2005. I’m so happy that I finally got to go and see it!

Matukituki River

The gorgeous Matukituki River is a braided river in Mt. Aspiring N.P. on the South Island of New Zealand. One day last January, I did a jet boating tour in the morning and a 4WD tour in the afternoon (during which I took this photo). The area is stunning!! Manaakitanga

Manaakitanga: hospitality, kindness, generosity, support – the process of showing respect, generosity and care for others. This is definitely true of Tamaki Maori Village. I highly recommend a visit when you’re in or near Rotorua!

Tamaki Maori Village is the best Maori cultural encounter I’ve experienced. The reason I loved it so much is because it felt like we were invited to a family gathering. After our Hobbiton adventure, mom and I made our way to Rotorua. Yes, that stinky town 😛 Apart from the sulphur smells, which are not always that bad unless the wind wafts a certain way, there is actually plenty to do.
