Our first destination after Auckland was Hahei. I’d never been to the Coromandel before, but heard great things about it and I wanted to save travelling the area for this trip with my mom. It wasn’t too long a drive from Auckland, maybe a few hours orso. We needed to get used to the car and the roads, so we took our time. The roads there are very different from home anyway, not even to mention driving on the left-hand side of the road, so it was (and is) best to not rush and to make sure we’d get to our destination in one piece. Although we did get some impatient honks from people who obviously thought we were being idiot tourists. Oh well…better safe than sorry, I’d say!
Hahei is beautiful! It’s a small town, but in a beautiful location with a stunning beach. We stayed at Tatahi Lodge, a very nice hostel. The managers were helpful and friendly. The beds were comfy, the location was perfect, the property was well maintained and clean. So a great choice, as far as I’m concerned.
We really enjoyed our stay in Hahei and in this hostel. We also very much enjoyed our Hokey Pokey and Boysenberry ice creams! (seriously, so good!)
I’m curious, have you tried Hokey Pokey or Boysenberry ice cream? What is your favourite ice cream flavour? 🙂
