Workings of the travel bug

Like a perfectly normal human being, you go about your business and are quite content with that rhythm of daily life. You do your thing, have your routines, do your work. Then, something starts to jiggle. Could be your toe, could be your ear…but all jokes aside, you know it’s the travel bug. You don’t want to listen, because routines are comfortable and weekends will still come. It’s another of those rhythms of daily life. And even though you’re tired, life’s pretty cruisy.

But then this buzzing, this jiggling gets to your stomach, and you start to get excited about travelling. Do you really want to? Daily life is so comfortable, so why throw everything out of whack again? You know routines go overboard, you know a lot of fatigue will be released from your system. And you know, when you go travelling you get to sniff that thing called freedom. Do you really want to? I mean, you know how hard it is to get back to your daily life after bathing in freedom for a while. You know you’ll have post-travel blues.

Well it’s too late, the seed has been planted. You start planning your next adventure. The buzzing becomes louder, the jiggling makes you swing it out. The travel bug’s got you. And it got you good. The only known cure is to get out there and explore! You know you want to, you’ve done all that research and planning, so what are you waiting for?

So your plans and bookings are made. You’re not getting cold feet, are you? You know once the travel bug gets you, there’s no going back. So you just have to go and make the most of it! Otherwise the buzzing and jiggling will never stop. I know that when you start your adventure, you may feel a bit apprehensive. And that’s okay. You’ve been in your daily routines for so long. Of course there’s nothing wrong with that, just don’t forget to look around you and explore the big blue marble we live on!

See, I knew you’d get it once you got out there. Travelling is amazing, isn’t it? Feel the fatigue leave your body, feel your muscles relax. Stick your face in the wind. Okay, if you want to spread your arms, then feel free. I don’t judge. Soak up fresh air, immerse yourself in beautiful nature, unwind, meet people, eat new things, enjoy just being and simply not doing too much. Pretty good, eh? Feel how it recharges your battery? Feel how it fills your head with new impressions. Now let those impressions turn into memories. You have so many stories to tell!

Savour it, so that when you go back to daily life, you go back refreshed. Hopefully invigorated too. Maybe you change something about your routine, maybe you go back to work with renewed energy. The travel bug has done its work. For now…
