A few weeks ago, I received an invite to a Fjällräven Trekker Event at the Fjällräven Brand Center in Amsterdam. I thought it would be good fun, and a cool way to meet like-minded outdoorsy folks, so I decided to go. The Trekker Event was last night. I was exhausted from very hectic times at work, so I was semi enthused at first. In the end, I’m glad I went, because it was indeed heaps of fun and I came back with energy renewed! It was a wonderful evening and came home quite late (when they finally kicked us out, haha). The store is going to do these kind of events four times a year. I’m curious to see what they’re going to do for the next one and hopefully I can be there.
Sofie Jugård Löfgren, projectmanager at Fjällräven Classic, came to talk with us about the Fjällräven Classic events. Not only the Classic in Sweden, but also the events in Denmark, Hong Kong, USA and now also in South Korea. It was also cool to hear more about how these events are run! She talked about the story and vision of founder Åke Nordin. She also showed us everything she brings when she goes on a trek herself. It was quite interesting to see what she brings. Even though I haven’t finished the Classic yet, hearing and talking about it last night made me even more excited and determined to try again! Hopefully, next year!
Unfortunately, the weather was pretty crap last night. It had been rather nice the few days before, but that night it was rainy and stormy. They had a BBQ going at the event, so that was nice, despite it being a bit uninviting to stay outside. It was lovely chatting with people and to be around other outdoorsy people. There was a guy who met his wife on the Appalachian Trail and now they both travel Europe. There was a couple that asked me heaps about the Classic – I was wearing my Fjällräven Classic hoodie – and they were so excited to be doing the Classic this August. They’re taking their dog with them, how cool! There was a woman who might do the Classic next year, but was first looking into doing a trail in Scotland, awesome! There was also a short quiz where you could win cool prizes! First place could choose between a backpack or a ticket for the Classic in Sweden next Summer. The winner chose the backpack and the runner up got the ticket. So nice!
All in all, it was a great evening and I’m so happy that I decided to go!
Fjällräven is my favorite brand too … and friend of mine almost won their Polar contest, maybe next time 🙂

Wow, winning a ticket to the Polar would have been so cool! Indeed, maybe next time! Happy trekking!

And where is the classic, San? Or is it in various locations each year?

The original Classic is in Swedish Lapland. But since a few years they have been expanding to other countries as well. They just want to get people to go outdoors and be in nature! 🙂

Oh gosh, if I was younger, I would definitely join in. I love that part of the world. I assume it is held in summertime?

People from all ages join in, just saying 😛 Most of the events are indeed held in the summertime. The one in Hong Kong isn’t, which is probably because of the weather.

I would like the hiking bit, but not so much the sleeping outdoors bit, San. But sure, I will take a look at the net for more information.

I understand! Canping in a tent isn’t really my favourite thing to do, but I like challenging myself! There are plenty of alternatives where you can stay in huts 🙂

That sounds better! I like the cabin idea. How many kms do you walk each day?

Huts are great! How many km I walk depends on so many things: terrain, fitness, weather. But the times I tried the Classic I did about 14-19 km each day.

So you walk alone or with a group? Is it like the Camino pilgrimages?

I walk alone. I don’t know if it’s like the Camino; never done that one 😉
