Mrs. Weka

One lovely evening in paradise, aka during my stay at Hopewell, I saw this cute little weka. Weka, also known as Maori hen or woodhen, is a flightless bird species of the rail family (rallidae). I guess it got curious there for a minute! 🙂

    1. Isn’t this little bird cute? To be honest, I have no idea if it’s a male or a female. 😛 Just thought the little fella was cute. 🙂 I didn’t have anything to give the bird (I’m not comfortable giving human foods to wild animals anyway). New Zealand really has given me an appreciation for birdlife.

  1. Our indigenous water rails look very similar, though they are more likely to hide in the undergrowth rather than venture bravely forth like this New Zealand cousin 🙂 I definitely agree, birds and animals need to stick to their own healthy diets … human food is often not even good for humans never mind wild creatures!

    1. You are so right. There’s so much bad food out there for people, let alone animals. I’d like to enjoy animals as naturally as possible 😉
