Vancouver, probably my favourite big city in a foreign country! I was here towards the end of April in 2012. The first couple of days were very sunny, so people urged me to get out and about. Since Vancouver is also known as ‘Raincouver’, I happily obliged and explored this amazing city! I took this photo of the skyline as I was walking through Stanley Park. I found it mesmerising that such a huge city felt so friendly and charming. The people were very friendly and I was asked for directions quite often, haha. I felt this place had a great vibe and I loved it! I don’t know when, but I will be back for sure! 😉

Alive and Trekking 
HA! I’ve never been to Vancouver, but we have a city in the northwest of England that is renowned for its rain too – Manchester. The Queen even remarked on that once and I seem to recall it caused a bit of a furore! We live close to the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Now it’s often promoted to visitors as Newcastle-Gateshead because the two town centres are only separated by the River Tyne which is spanned within a short distance by seven bridges including the iconic Tyne Bridge. Newcastle-Gateshead has everything from medieval and Georgian architecture to modern art and the amazing international music venue, Sage Gateshead. We find it’s a pretty vibrant place and there’s always plenty to see and do 🙂

That sounds like a wonderful mix for a city trip! I love old buildings, I love water and how can you go wrong with music?! And seven bridges, how cool is that? It’s quite a popular destination for city trips from the Netherlands. The ferry from IJmuiden goes to Newcastle, so it’s perfect for a weekend away. 🙂
